5 Things You Need To Know Today: Feb. 25

1. Former U.S. poet laureate Billy Collins, who is referred to as "the most popular poet in America" by the New York Times, will be at the Central Library tonight, from 7 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $50; to order call 949-548-2411.

2. Orange County Restaurant Week Kicks off Sunday and runs through March 5. Several Newport Beach and Corona del Mar eateries are among the 100 participating restaurants.

3. Newport Beach Mayor Mike Henn has started a Facebook page to keep residents informed about what is happening around the city. Check it out and request him as a friend.

4. The PTA is accepting nominations for its Honorary Service Awards, designed to recognize teachers, coaches, staff members, parents and community members who have provided outstanding services to CDMHS. The awards will be given in the spring. If you are interested in nominating someone, send an e-mail to  lizkennedynb@gmail.com with the person's name, information about why he or she deserves recognition, and contact information of others who might be willing to give additional information about the nominee. Nominations will be accepted through Feb. 27.

5. Today will be mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of rain, and highs in the upper 50s, according to the National Weather Service.
