5 Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 15

A school board meeting, income tax assistance and a cloudy day.

1. Tonight, at 7 p.m., is the Newport-Mesa Unified School District's board meeting, 985 Bear St., Costa Mesa. Read the agenda here.

2. Reservations are being accepted for the Corona del Mar Middle School Mother/Son Badminton Tournament. The event will be held Friday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the CDM gym. Tickets are $12 per person and include a pasta dinner and prizes. RSVP to Deborah Schwartz via e-mail, at dschwartz01@roadrunner.com. The deadline is Feb. 26.

3. Chocolatier Tracey Downey will be at the Central Library tonight, from 7 to 9 p.m. She will present a demonstration and tasting relating to the history of chocolate. To register, call 949-633-3151.

4. The OASIS Senior Center in Corona del Mar is offering the AARP Tax-Aide Program to provide free personal income tax assistance to middle- and low-income taxpayers. Tax counselors will be available for Friday appointments through mid-April. Call the OASIS administration office at 949-644-3244 to schedule an appointment.

5. Today will be mostly cloudy, with a slight chance of rain, and highs in the low 60s, according to the National Weather Service.
