5 Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 11

1. Santa Claus will be at Roger's Gardens today and tomorrow from noon to  6 p.m., greeting visitors and listening to children's Christmas lists. For more information, read our story here.

2. Don't forget! Laura's House, a local nonprofit shelter, will hold a gift card fundraiser today from noon to 4 p.m. at Fashion Island to benefit those affected by domestic violence. For more information read our story here. 

3. The Newport Beach Public Library is celebrating the Christmas season with the annual showings of "Santa's Workshop" presented by Jim Gamble Puppet Productions. The shows are festive and great for children of all ages. There will be two showings at the Central Library from 1 to 2 p.m. and another from 2 to 3 p.m. A third showing will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Mariner's branch. The free shows are first come, first served. Arrive on time to get a good seat.

4. The Newport Beach Fire Department's Spark of Love Toy Drive continues. Unwrapped toys and sports equipment can be dropped off at all local fire stations, including station No. 5 in Corona del Mar. 

5. Today will be mostly sunny, with highs in the upper 60s near the coast and in the upper 70s inland, according to the National Weather Service.
