5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 7

Dress donations, a shopping fundraiser and Roger's Gardens.

1. Dress donations are now being accepted for wives of the 3rd Battallion, 5th Marine Regiment from Camp Pendleton. The Marines have been deployed in Afghanistan for seven months and will be returning home over the next several weeks. To celebrate their homecoming, the Marines will attend a ball in Las Vegas in June, but many of these couples  are unable to afford a dress for the formal event.  2. Today, from 5 to 7 p.m., Corona del Mar High School will be having a family and friends shopping event at Hobie Surf Shop in Corona del Mar, 3140 E. Coast Hwy. Twenty percent of the total sales will be donated back to the school.

3.  Today at 6:30 p.m. there will be a Planning Commission meeting at council chambers, 3300 Newport Blvd., Newport Beach. Read the agenda here.

4. Don't forget! The deadline to enter your California Friendly garden in the Roger's Gardens contest is Thursday, April 14. Judges will award a $1,500 grand prize to the garden that best demonstrates California Friendly elements. To find out more information, click here.
