5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 26

A City Council meeting, a school board meeting and the O.C. Marathon.

1. The Newport City Council will meet today at 7 p.m. at the council chambers, 3300 Newport Blvd. Council members will further consider an ordinance that would create steep fines for people and property owners involved in . Read the rest of the agenda here

2. The Newport-Mesa Unified school board will meet today, at 7 p.m, 2985-A Bear St. in Costa Mesa. Read the agenda here

3. Committee members and volunteers are needed for the 16th annual Sea King Pride Award luncheon scheduled to be held Thursday, May 26. Sea King Pride Awards are awarded by the CdM faculty, staff and administrators to those students who exemplify Sea King Pride.  If you are interested in participating contact, Andrea Fine at afinemom@me.com.

4. Runners will flock to Newport Beach on Sunday for the O.C. Marathon. The starting line will be at Newport Center Drive, just south of Santa Barbara Drive. Check here for road closure information. Runners can register online through Wednesday. In addition to the main event, there is a half-marathon and a 5K run. Registration fees are $110 for the marathon, $95 for the half-marathon and $45 for the 5K.

5. Today will be mostly sunny, with highs in the low 70s, according to the National Weather Service.
