5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 20

An Alzheimer's workshop, a town meeting and city scholarships.

1. Today, at 1 p.m., the OASIS Senior Center and Hoag Hospital will host a lecture on how to prevent memory loss and other cognitive impairments due to Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. The lecture will also focus on risk factors and early signs of memory loss. The free discussion will be held at the OASIS Evelyn Hart Event Center. Reservations are not required.

2. Today, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., the Corona del Mar Residents Association and the Corona del Mar Business Improvement District will host the annual town meeting at Sherman Library & Gardens. The meeting will include discussions about highway safety in Corona del Mar and an update on the CDM Vision Plan.

3. Don't forget! Now through Thursday, April 21, applications and essays are being accepted for the city of Newport Beach scholarship program.  Ten $500 scholarships will be awarded to children who live in Newport Beach or to children of regular, full-time Newport Beach employees.  Applicants must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and must be applying to an accredited two-year community college or an accredited four-year college/university.  To download the full application and read more information on the requirements for the scholarship, click here.

4.  Today, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., there will be a Tidelands Management Committee meeting at the OASIS Senior Center, 800 Marguerite. For more details, read the agenda here.
