5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 19

An earthquake and tsunami workshop, a wine and cheese event and an Alzheimer's workshop.

1. Mark your calendars! On Tuesday, April 26, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., the city will be holding an Earthquake & Tsunami Awareness Workshop  at the OASIS Senior Center in Corona del Mar. The workshop will be conducted by Newport Beach Fire Department Emergency Management personnel and will cover how the city will respond to unexpected earthquake and tsunami threats, as well as provide tips on what residents can do to prepare themselves. The workshop is free and registration is not required. 

2. Tonight, from 7 to 8 p.m., stop by the Central Library to learn tips on how to pair wine and cheese from Pamela Thomson, a local cheese expert, and James Vorse, a wine buyer. The event is $20 and registration is required. 

 3. On Wednesday, at 1 p.m., the OASIS Senior Center and Hoag Hospital will host a lecture on how to prevent memory loss and other cognitive impairments due to Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. The lecture will also focus on risk factors and ways to recognize early signs of memory loss. The free discussion will be held at the OASIS Evelyn Hart Event Center. Reservations are not required.

 4. Registration for city summer camps is now open. Early bird rate is available through May 5. More info here.
