5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 18

Summer camp registration, student awards and dress donations.

1. Registration for city summer camps is now open. Early bird rate is available through May 5. More info here.

2. Student nominations are now being accepted for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District's Starfish Awards. The awards were created to recognize students who have made a difference in the community. Nominations are due by Monday, May 16. You can find the nomination form here.

3. Don't forget! Applications and essays are still being accepted for the Brad Evans' Memorial Scholarship. Two $1,000 awards are available to all Corona del Mar seniors who graduated from Harbor View Elementary. Completed applications are due by Friday, April 29. 4.  Dress donations are still being accepted for wives of the 3rd Battallion, 5th Marine Regiment from Camp Pendleton. The Marines have been deployed in Afghanistan for seven months and will be returning home over the next several weeks. To celebrate their homecoming, the Marines will attend a ball in Las Vegas in June, but many of these couples  are unable to afford a dress for the formal event.
