5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 16

Curfew crackdown, magic and a fashion show.

1.  The Newport Beach Police Department is continuing its crackdown on juveniles who may be violating curfew throughout the spring break vacation period. The city curfew ordinance prohibits any person under the age of 18 from loitering in streets, alleys and other public places between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Newport Beach police Sgt. Steve Burdette said the curfew enforcement is in response to a recent increase in theft-related crimes committed throughout the city during nighttime hours by juveniles, but is also intended to keep kids from becoming crime victims themselves. Get more information on the city's curfew ordinance here. Students will return to school Monday, April 18.

2. Today, at 1 p.m., style expert Tim Gunn, co-host of Project Runway, will be at Fashion Island sharing his expertise as he hosts a spring 2011 fashion show launching the latest collections from Juicy Couture, Kate Spade New York and Lucky Brand Jeans. The event will be held at the Neiman Marcus/Bloomingdale's Court. There is no need to RSVP; seating is open but limited. Gunn has lectured widely on fashion and lifestyle design and has written articles for Marie Claire, Elle, Seventeen, People and US Weekly.

3. Today, from 2 to 3 p.m., puppeteer extraordinaire Richard Woloski will perform magic tricks at the Mariners Branch of the Newport Beach Public Library, 1300 Irvine Ave.
