5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 13

National Library Week, a hike and Roger's Gardens.

1. Don't forget! The Newport Beach Public Library has special family events planned through Saturday to mark National Library Week. Today at 3 p.m., the Balboa Branch Library will host Animal Tales and Musical Scales with Ken Frawley; on Thursday, April 14, at 4 p.m., the Corona del Mar Branch Library will host Wildlife America; and on Friday, April 15, at 7 p.m., the Central Library will have special guest Dave Eggers, author of Zeitourn and What Is the What. 2.  Today, at 11 a.m., the OASIS Senior Center's Trail Trekkies group will gather for a hike near the center, along a paved path in both the Bonita Canyon Sports Park and the nearby residential neighborhood. Get more information here.

3.  The Newport Beach Harbor Commission meeting is scheduled for today, at 6 p.m., at the council chambers, 3300 Newport Blvd. See the agenda here.

4. The deadline to enter your California Friendly garden in the Roger's Gardens contest is Thursday, April 14. Judges will award a $1,500 grand prize to the garden that best demonstrates California Friendly elements. To find out more information, click here.
