5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 1

An emergency-alert test, free milk and a concert.

1. Don't forget! Today at noon, the city will conduct the Outdoor Emergency Notification System test. For more details, read our story here.

2. Residents are invited to meet with Newport Beach Mayor Mike Henn on Saturday, April 2, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., at the Newport Coast Community Center, 6401 San Joaquin Hills Rd. The mayor will be on hand to talk about programs, projects or issues in Newport Beach.  

3. Corona del Mar Patch is kicking off April by helping you keep some extra green in your pocket, which we all know is essential for every spring wardrobe! This week's deals include discounts and specials on beauty services, cosmetics and free milk. Read about them here.

4. If you're looking for something to do Saturday, April, 2, and you enjoy music, stop by the Newport Beach Central Library for a family concert. The free event will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, and presented by Craig Newton, with songs ranging from Yankee Doodle to Twist and Shout. To make the music come alive, Newton uses a variety of instruments,  including acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin, banjo, flute, tin whistle, harmonica and trombone. Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis, limited by room capacity. 5. Today will be mostly sunny, with highs in the low 70s, according to the National Weather Service.
