5 Things You Need to Know Today

Shopping safety tips, holiday closures and a fundraiser for veterans.

1. The warm Thanksgiving feast from last night is behind us, so why not head to the malls for some Black Friday hoopla? Don't forget: Lock your car doors, store your packages in the trunk, hang onto your wallets and purses and limit the amount of cash you are carrying.

2. Newport Beach City Hall and the Corona del Mar Branch Library are closed today in observance of Thanksgiving.  The library will reopen Saturday at 9 a.m.; City Hall will be back to business as usual come Monday at 8 a.m.

3. The Corona del Mar Chamber of Commerce is kicking off the holiday season with a networking mixer and reception Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Bungalow Restaurant.

4. This is the last weekend to donate to the Corona del Mar Middle School's fundraiser to benefit local veterans. Clothes, gifts and monetary donations will be accepted through Monday. All unwrapped gifts must be dropped off at the school's front office.

5. The National Weather Service is predicting a cool, cloudy weekend in Corona del Mar with a slight chance of showers Saturday and Sunday. Highs will be in the low 60s throughout the weekend.
