200 Gallons of Diesel Fuel Leaks into Newport Bay

About 200 gallons of diesel fuel was found along the shoreline between Adams and Cypress streets on Friday afternoon, the Newport Beach Fire Department reported.

An estimated 200 gallons of diesel fuel leaked into the bay on Friday, according to the Newport Beach Fire Department.

At about 1:50 p.m., fuel leaked into the bay from a supply line to the Petrosea fuel dock at 503 E. Edgewater Ave., the NBFD reported. Fuel was found along the shoreline between Adams and Cypress streets.

When the first fire engine arrived on scene, the emergency fuel shut off was activated, the NBFD reported.

Newport Beach Fire Department worked with OCSD Harbor Patrol to contain the spill. 

Firefighters deployed 120 feet of adsorbent booms along the shoreline, while the sheriff's deputies deployed 350 feet of containment booms around the docks.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Fish & Game were notified to supervise the clean-up of the spill.
