Terra Prima Recognized for Landscaping Excellence

Terra Prima, Inc., headquartered in Corona Del Mar, is proud to announce that they have been recognized for their landscape installation work at a residence in Huntington Beach from the California Landscape Contractors Association Orange County Chapter’s Annual Beautification Awards Program.  This year Terra Prima, Inc. was recognized for The Olson Project, which received the first place Small Residential Landscape Award.

“It’s great to add yet another award to our growing list of CLCA Beautification Awards—this brings our total to six awards in the past four years that we have entered our projects,” said Cherie Ciotti-Roco , President of Terra Prima.  “When asked how we step up each year, I believe it’s our constant dedication to quality and expert craftsmanship, which are essential in the creation of our signature landscapes”.

For the Olson project in Huntington Beach, Terra Prima, Inc. won the Small Residential Landscape Award– recognizing their creativity along with fine craftsmanship.  With an open mind and a desire to entertain, the Huntington Beach homeowners dreamed of a landscape that could allow them to entertain their fellow neighbors as well as compliment their beach cottage.  On a small lot close to the beach in a neighborhood where purchasing old homes and renovating them is growing in popularity, the original space was a bit of a challenge to work with.  The lot was only 45 feet wide, featuring cracked concrete slabs and dead turf that needed removal.  Terra Prima built out a large deck in the front landscape made out of redwood and stained a dark chestnut color to compliment the bright blue color of the home.  The entire deck can accommodate at least 20 people, and is wired for recessed and step lighting beneath the deck, using LED lights for soft, energy efficient lighting.  To beautify the deck, Terra Prima installed Mediterranean drought tolerant plants with a tropical hybrid palette using plants such as Sage, Dwarf Acacias, Kangaroo Paws and Ajuga.  Instead of turf, there is a Sedum groundcover. A beautiful flagstone walkway leads up to the deck in the front landscape.  Beautiful, charming pots sit in the front of the house containing tropicals and edibles – a Pineapple guava tree and strawberries, and a pink lemonade lemon tree is planted.  Additional stonework was installed along the street to allow people to get in and out of their cars easily.  The irrigation system is state-of-the-art with an on-site weather station so that the Olson’s won’t have to worry about their sprinklers throughout the year.

The Olson’s couldn’t be happier with the results.  They have already hosted several family and neighborhood get-togethers.  There is plenty of room for everyone.  Now they look forward to using their new deck and landscape for entertaining as often as possible.
