Restaurant Week benefits patron and restaurant alike. Given the sluggish economy, fewer people are eating out. This special week is an opportunity for diners to taste the best that Newport has to offer for a fraction of the normal cost, and it's a chance for restaurants to pack their dining rooms and show off their food.

"It has quickly become one of the city's most exciting and anticipated culinary celebrations that everyone benefits from—the local patrons, the restaurants and the city," Drewry said.

Participating restaurants are hoping for a spike in business.

"This event will hopefully bring more business," said Kimberly Craig, assistant manager of . "There are people that have never been to Billy's that come during Restaurant Week. It's a mix of old and new customers."

Recently opened restaurants also use Restaurant Week to introduce new customers to their menus. at Fashion Island opened in August and is looking to attract new patrons. Its largely organic menu offers a blend of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes.

"We hope to get more exposure so people can get out and taste our cuisine," said True Food Kitchen general manager Darryl Cuilla. "We want to reach out to new people we haven't touched."
