Philanthropists Give $2.5 Million to Hoag Hospital

Hoag Hospital officials say the donation is the largest gift for nursing in the hospital's 60-year history.

Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian received a historical $2.5 million donation this week from the the Argyros Family Foundation to expand nursing education, hospital officials announced Friday.

Philanthropists George and Julia Argyros presented the check to Hoag officials on Thursday during the annual Nurses Day event. During the presentation, hundreds of nurses cheered when they learned the donation was the largest gift for nursing in Hoag's 60-year history, officials reported.

“Even with the nicest facilities and world renowned physicians, it is the patient care from nurses that make all the difference in a patient’s recovery,” Julia Argyros said during the presentation of the donation. “We want patients leaving Hoag to feel like they had the best care in the world by Hoag nurses."

Hospital officials said the donation will be used for a wide range of educational nursing initiatives at the hospital.
