Hoag Receives $2.5 Million Donation for Nursing Education

Philanthropists George and Julia Argyros will present the donation at Hoag Hospital's annual Nurses Day event next week.

Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian will receive a $2.5 million donation from the Argyros Family Foundation next week to enhance nursing education, the hospital announced Thursday.

Philanthropists George and Julia Argyros will present the donation on Thursday, May 2 at Hoag Hospital's annual Nurses Day event. Julia Argyros, whose sister was a nurse for more than 40 years, said the goal of the donation is to make sure money is available for Hoag to "deepen nurses’ education and skills in all fields."

“We want to provide Hoag nurses all the necessary tools to enable them to be the very best,” Julia Argyros said in a released statement. “When people speak about Hoag, we want them to say the nurses they encountered while there were the kindest, most professional, dedicated and caring nurses they have ever encountered.”

Hoag President and CEO Robert Braithwaite said quality nursing education has resulted in improved patient care and recovery. The donation will help continue to make the latest knowledge available to Hoag nurses.

“The new educational and professional growth opportunities that the Argyros Family Foundation gift will make possible will positively impact our nursing program across all specialties, and our patients and the community will benefit most of all,” Braithwaite said.
