Newport Beach has landed on the list of the top 50 most popular destinations for meeting places across the country.

The list, compiled by Cvent, an online event planning and management service, was released Thursday. Cvent officials evaluated about 5,700 cities across the country located in the Cvent network to compile the list. Cvent ranked the cities after analyzing Request For Proposals received, total room nights consumed, awarded RFPs and room nights and the percentage of qualified meeting venues, official said.

“Meetings and conventions are major economic drivers, generating valuable revenue for cities and local businesses that benefit from business travel,” Bharet Malhotra, Cvent’s spokesman, said in a statement released Thursday.

San Diego was ranked in the number 5 spot on the list. Other California cities in the top 50 include Anaheim, Carlsbad and San Francisco.
