Second TSA PreCheck Lane Added at JWA

The Transportation Security Administration's PreCheck program at John Wayne Airport was designed to speed up the security screening process for passengers .

The Transportation Security Administration has added its PreCheck program to a second terminal at John Wayne Airport, speeding up the security screening process for some passengers, officials announced.

Now being offered at Terminal B, the PreCheck option allows registered passengers to get through security screening faster. Passengers using the expedited screening of PreCheck do not have to take off their shoes, can leave on belts and jackets and don't have to remove 3-1-1 compliant liquids from their carry on bags, airport officials said.

"Up until now, the only travelers that could use PreCheck were frequent fliers with American, Alaska, Delta, United and US Airways at John Wayne Airport," Jenny Wedge, airport spokeswoman, said. "Because United and US Airways are in Terminal B, it makes sense to offer the expedited screening in Terminal B during the busy periods."

The first TSA PreCheck lane landed at JWA's Terminal A in December 2012 and has become very popular.

"More than 80,000 passengers have used it," Wedge added.

Passengers can use the PreCheck lane in Terminal A daily from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. In the new lane in Terminal B, passengers can use it Monday through Saturday, from 5 to 7 a.m. and Sundays from 6 to 8 a.m.

Wedge said the hours may be extended depending on how well PreCheck does among passengers.
