'Babyface' Robs Bank of America in Corona del Mar

A Bank of America branch in Corona del Mar was robbed today by the `Babyface Bandit,'' whose moniker comes from his youthful facial features.

Babyface escaped with an undisclosed amount of money, a police official reported.

The robbery took place at about 9:30 a.m. at the Bank of America located at 3300 E. Coast Highway, according to Kathy Lowe, Newport Beach police spokeswoman. No one was injured and no weapons were seen during the robbery.

"The suspect approached the teller with a note and demanded the teller empty the money drawer," Lowe said in a released statement. "The suspect left the bank through the rear doors."

The amount of money the suspect stole was not disclosed. Lowe said because the investigation is ongoing, what was written on the note used during the robbery is not being released.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said the suspect has a ``stooped posture.'' He is described as a white man, 25 to 30-years-old, standing 6-feet tall. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt with a "DC" emblem on the front, dark pants and black sunglasses.
