Mama D's Closed for 2 Days Over Sewage Spill

Five major health violations noted in early August health inspection at Mama D's.

on Newport Boulevard was closed Aug. 7-9 after county health inspectors found sewage backing up in the back food prep area. Four other major health violations were also observed, along with six minor violations.

"Numerous" floor sinks were seen to have sewage overflow, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency.

  • Sausage wasn't maintained at a proper temperature,
  • Containers of meat sauce were left reheating at an unsafe temperature
  • Food cooked the night before was measured at 47 to 52 degrees fahrenheit in the cooler (it should have been below 41 degrees, inspectors said)
  • Cloths used for wiping the cook's line and back food prep area without sanitizer solution set up

The restaurant was allowed to reopen Aug. 9 after a second inspection, during which two more minor violations were observed.
