KFI to Host Cash Mob at Struggling CDM Toy Store

KFI's Bill Handel will be broadcasting live at Corona del Mar's Toy Boat! Toy Boat! Toy Boat! on Tuesday to try and help the business stay afloat.

The Toy Boat! Toy Boat! Toy Boat! Store in Corona del Mar was preparing to shut its doors tomorrow, but instead KFI's Bill Handel will broadcast live from the struggling business to help get the on its feet.

Handel will be at the store, located at 3331 East Coast Highway, on Tuesday from 11-1 p.m. According to its website, KFI is encouraging its listeners to "show up to help us support this struggling local business, a local landmark, that has been in the community for almost 50 years."

KFI is asking the community to buy a toy to help keep the store open.

Husband and wife team Mike and Lori Curtin have owned the toy store for the last five years. However, due to rent increases and the dwindling economy, owning a small business has proven to be a challenge that may not withstand another month.

"We are trying to keep the boat afloat," Lori Curtin said. "With the rent increase, the economy, it's hard to keep a small business going."

The store has plans to close its doors on Tuesday if it does not sell enough toys to pay the rent.

"It's emotionally overwhelming, but in a good way," Lori Curtin said. "I had no idea that people felt that way about the store."
