Island Hotel Names New General Manager

Dieter Hissin brings more than 30 years of experience to Newport Beach's Island Hotel.

The Island Hotel has named a new general manager, who is no stranger to Newport Beach, officials announced last week.

Dieter Hissin, the former general manager of the Balboa Bay Resort, is now leading the day-to-day operations at the Island Hotel Newport Beach. According to hotel officials, Hissin is "an esteemed personality in the Newport Beach community" who has more than 30 years of experience.

"The lasting impact he has made on the local community over the past two decades is a testament to his amiable personality and eloquent leadership style, and we are thrilled to welcome him to our team during this exciting time,” said Ralph Grippo, president of Irvine Company Resort Properties.

The hotel is in the midst of revamping with a new restaurant, lounge and outdoor gathering space expected to debut later this year, of which Hissin is expected to play an instrumental role. Last year the Island Hotel introduced 23,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including the largest ballroom in Newport Beach, an intimate al fresco wedding venue and the popular Island Club lounge, officials said in a new release.

Hissin most recently served as general manager at the Balboa Bay Resort where he worked for 18 years in a variety of roles. His career also includes the position of restaurant manager for The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel, The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong, and management and culinary roles at hotels and restaurants in Germany.

Hissin, a seventh generation hotelier, grew up in a small town in Germany where at 10-years-old he worked under the guidance of his father in the kitchen of Gasthof Krone, his family’s quaint hotel in Southern Germany.
