Five Crowns To Close for Remodel

Five Crowns Restaurant, a legendary fine-dining establishment in Corona del Mar, is preparing to close its doors for about a month to make some upgrades. 

The restaurant is set to close Sunday, March 20, and will undergo a variety of transformations. The restaurant will remain true to its old-English style, but changes will include new flooring, paint, lighting design, built-in furniture, new upholstery, plates, flatware and table linens. In addition, a seasonally driven menu will replace its current one, but the best-seller isn't going anywhere. 

"Prime rib is the core of our sales. It is the bread and butter of our brand," said Ryan Wilson, the restaurant's executive chef. "It will have a slightly different plating presentation and service presentation. Aside from that, the menu will change entirely."

Steven Langford Architects Inc. will be in charge of the remodel. No stranger to restaurants, it has designed such popular local eateries as Javier's, Fleming's Steakhouse, Houston's, Ruby's Diner and Yardhouse.

The new space and youthful serving style aim to appeal to a broader demographic, and the restaurant's current subtle lighting will be revamped.

"It will be much lighter—the finishes, the lighting, the experience. There will be more energy in the serving and in the food without taking away from our elegant presentation," Wilson said.

Five Crowns is scheduled to reopen near the end of April. Its restaurant Sidedoor will remain open during the remodel.
