Experts Style Fans at Fashion's Night Out

Fashion Island welcomed Good Day LA host Jillian Barberie Reynolds and Designer David Meister at its 4th annual Fashion's Night Out.

Fashionistas and their best girlfriends enjoyed watermelon martinis, cupcakes and high fashion Thursday at Fashion Island in celebration of Fashion's Night Out.

Jillian Barberie Reynolds, co-host of FOX's Good Day LA and former Huntington Beach resident, hosted the 4th annual Fashion's Night Out in Newport Beach featuring David Meister's Fall 2012 collection.

"I missed my old stomping grounds. I used to live here and I loved it! It's clean, it's pretty and I cried when I moved to the valley," Barberie Reynolds told Patch. "It's my dream to move back down here, I don't know how, but I'm going to do it, probably Newport."

Meister, Barberie Reynolds and stylist Jamie Krell created vignettes around Fashion Island Thursday night where they did meet and greets with fans and fashionistas, and helped style their new fall looks.

"It's a girl's night out, we left the boys at home, and came out to enjoy good fashion and good drinks," Pamela MacDonald, of Irvine, said. "The runway show was great. We already started shopping for fall."

The fashion duo also sat down with Patch.com before the show to offer their best fashion tips for women for the upcoming fall season.

"You have to feel comfortable in what you're wearing," Meister said. "You will not come across as confident. You have to be able to put whatever you want to wear on and just forget about it, don't even think about it."

Barberie Reynolds is huge on fashion, having started the Style File segment on Good Day LA 18 years ago where she profiled up and coming designers, like Rebecca Taylor, who are now top contemporary designers.

"I am a girl that has been on TV for 25 years," Barberie Reynolds said. "They don't give us money, they don't give us clothes or a stylist. So at the time I read a lot of Elle and Vogue, but I couldn't afford it so I used to go to Marshall's and TJ Maxx and buy looks that were similar and that's how the show began."

Barberie Reynolds was dressed in a curvy, red dress and gold Christian Louboutin spiked heels for Fashion's Night Out, but says her everyday look is still OC casual dressing in Rebecca Taylor and Ella Moss

"When Juicy first came out, with the velour I thought that was cool mixing casual and glamour," Barberie Reynolds said. "Being from Orange County in flip flops that was what I was all about. It's all about comfort."

Fall Style Tips from Jillian Barberie Reynolds

  • Plaids
  • Pleats
  • Jackets that are masculine with a feminine twist
  • colorblocking
  • boyfriend dressing

"I'm not very good at boyfriend dressing," Barberie Reynolds said. "That's not my trend and that's okay not every trend is going to work for everybody."

Fall Style Tips from David Meister

  • Lots of shine and sequins
  • Metallics
  • One shoulder
  • Lace
  • Bold colors
  • sky high, simple stilettos

Meister has visited Newport Beach several times to make personal appearances at Neiman Marcus and says he like the OC style, "there's always a sense of casualness to it, that's what makes serious clothes look so modern."
