Ex-NBA Player Speaks on Addiction

Chris Herren, who played for the Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics, visited Newport Beach's Sober Living by the Sea. Herren has been alcohol and drug-free since 2008.

A former NBA basketball player, who spent several years battling drug and alcohol abuse, visited a Newport Beach treatment center last week to help raise awareness about addiction and recovery.

Chris Herren spoke Thursday to clients at Newport's Sober Living by the Sea addiction treatment programs. Alcohol and drug-free since 2008, Herren struggled with substance abuse for much of his basketball career with the Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics.

“As I travel the United States speaking and sharing my story, each day I see first-hand the need for effective treatment programs,” Herren said.
