Coco's to Close Doors in CDM

The longtime Corona del Mar restaurant will be a thing of the past come March.

Coco's Bakery and Restaurant on East Coast Highway in Corona del Mar has been a gathering place for many families and neighbors for decades, but the good times are coming to a quick end, according to a Daily Pilot report.

Jerry Bermudes, the restaurant's general manager, told the newspaper the restaurant is scheduled to close on March 10. Bermudes saud he did not know the reason behind the restaurant's closure, but said employees have been hearing about it "for more than a year."

Today about 30 people work at the restaurant, and many locals say they are sad to see it go.

Newport Beach City Councilwoman Nancy Gardner told the Daily Pilot she remembers Coco's being in town since as far back as the 1950s. She even worked there one summer.

Coco's is located in Corona del Mar at 3446 E. Coast Hwy. Read the full story on the Daily Pilot.

I had been hearing rumors of this. I'm saddend...it was one of the few places that I felt I could take my young children (babies and toddlers) in the 80's. Now, that I'm an elder, I will miss being able to just stop anytime and enjoy a meal. This action is a double loss since the Fashion Island Coco's closed last year.

I'm very saddened to lose this cozy and family-oriented restaurant. It is full of memories for me, spanning over 40 years, and now since I live alone, I have been enjoying Coco's at least three or more times each week. The servers have become almost like family, and I will miss them so much! I pray that they will quickly find employment elsewhere. Thank you all and God bless you!

Mary. Coco's in Fashion Island and Corona Del Mar were my favorite places to enjoy a family restaurant with great pancakes, omelets, French Toast, great hamburgers, salads, and the children's menu was a highlight for my grandchildren! Now we only have the one on Jamboree. It is always busy and I hope it will stay open!
