Cockroach Infestation Shuts Down Newport Beach Coffee House

Inspectors allowed it to reopen later the same day after taking care of the problem.

A cockroach infestation closed a coffee house in Newport Beach last week.

Health inspectors visited Kean Coffee, at 2043 Westcliff Drive, March 26 and discovered:

  • Two dead adult cockroaches in the cabinet under the front freezer
  • Two live adult cockroaches and three nymph cockroaches in the cabinet under the front freezer
  • One live adult and two nymph cockroaches in the food storage cabinet next to the front freezer
  • One nymph cockroach on the panel behind the blenders

The inspectors also cited for eight minor violations, including improper holding temperatures for food – in this case milk and creamers –unsanitary equipment and small flies.

The coffee house was allowed to reopen later that day when it got rid of the cockroaches.
