3 Newport Financial Advisers on Barron's List

The magazine's list of the nation's top 100 independent financial advisers used such factors as total assets, total revenue, preservation of wealth and overall quality of the practice.

Newport Beach-based Compak Asset Management has made Barron's list of the nation's top 100 independent financial advisers in 2012.

The weekly financial magazine ranked Compak 68th. Other Newport advisers on the list were Laila Pence of Pence Wealth Management (ranked 90th) and Doug Allison of Beacon Pointe Advisors (60th).

The rankings' criteria include total assets under management, total revenue generated, the preservation of wealth and the overall quality of the practice. There were 350 nominations, and the list came out in August.

“I have enjoyed helping people for over 35 years with their personal wealth management," said Moe Ansari, president and chief portfolio manager. "It gives me great joy to see people achieve their dreams and help them provide for their future.”

Compak manages clients with large portfolios and with portfolios less than $1 million. “I get asked all the time why we do that, because it’s a little unusual,” Ansari said. “The answer is that those accounts have been good to us, they’ve helped us get where we are today, and I don’t want to forget who brought us to the dance.”

Compak, with locations in San Jose and in Scottsdale, Ariz., has been in business since 1999 and employs 30 investment professionals.
