Pending school board approval, Michael Vossen will become the director of career pathways and business relations in the Newport-Mesa unified School District in July.

Newport Harbor High School Principal Michael Vossen will soon have a a new post at the Newport-Mesa Unified School District, an official announced Friday.

Pending school board approval Michael Vossen, who has been the principal at NHHS since 2000, will become the district's director of career pathways and business relations on July 1, according to district spokeswoman Laura Boss.

In a released statement, Boss said Vossen is a match for the position because of his strengths and experience in career pathways, leadership and business.

"He has been a strong advocate for the enhancement and expansion of career technical programs both on the campus and district-wide," Boss said. "The NHHS Culinary Arts Program is a nationally recognized award-winning model."

The search for a new principal will begin immediately and will include input from staff, students, parents and the community.

"The goal is to have a new principal in place before the start of the new school year," Boss said.

The board will receive Vossen's recommendation for the position from Superintendent Fred Navarro on Tuesday.

According to Boss, Vossen's new position was formerly known as the director of career technical education. The person who previously held the role retired a year ago.
