Listen to Music in Corona del Mar

A look at the best places in Corona del Mar to listen to music.

Corona del Mar is probably not the first place you'd think of to catch a band. Most people go to L.A. or even Costa Mesa to the Detroit Bar to catch a live set, but CDM has music for your listening pleasure daily. Whether it be a live band or somebody's favorite playlist on an iPod, the Village will have a beat to fit your musical style.

- Every Monday evening from 6:30-10 p.m., Sidedoor gastropub, located on the outside of Five Crowns restaurant, serves up British rock classics by acoustic guitarist Don Covel. A perfect accompaniment to the Cornish pasties and fish 'n' chips.

- This hideaway restaurant and bar on Heliotrope off Coast Highway is a gem that hosts nightly live music by a variety of  musicians. In addition to the daily happy hour (even on the weekends!), patrons can enjoy great deals on food while listening to great music in an intimate setting. Music at Port offers acoustic rock, pop and lounge.  Its tentative schedule: Mondays - Jimmy Hopper, Tuesdays - Jarrod Sammet, Wednesdays - George Fryer Combo, Thursdays - Greg Topper, Fridays - Kevin Shima, Saturdays - Cory Case, Sundays - Ahmadreza Nabizadeh.

- On Tuesdays at the you are the DJ. It's iPod Tuesdays from 9-11 p.m. Submit via email your 30-minute playlist to the Crow Bar and they will choose the best one of the week to play. If yours is chosen,  bring your iPod and just plug it in—somebody must want to listen to your Lady Gaga's "Alejandro" remix.

- It's not so quiet here five nights a week. Live music by Deanie and Sissy play Tuesday and Wednesday starting at 9 p.m., and the Deanie Wood band plays Thursday through Saturday at 9:30 p.m. You never know who might pop in here. A recent patron was Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.
