Travel Over the Rainbow and Experience “The Wizard of Oz” Live and On-stage atLincoln Elementary School’s Annual Spring Play

A spectacular celebration of the iconic 1939MGM film, Lincoln Elementary School’s production of The Wizard of Oz will blowyou away from the moment the tornado touches down until you arrive in the dazzlingworld of Oz. The sixth grade’s live theatrical production of “The Wizard of Oz” willhave the entire family captivated as the students travel down the yellow brick roadfor four unforgettable evening performances at Lincoln Elementary School, beginning:

Wednesday, March 28 and continuing through Saturday, March 31, 2012.

The live production of “The Wizard of Oz” will follow Dorothy and Toto on their journeythrough Oz as she learns to have heart, brains, and courage thanks, in part, to hernew friends: The Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, and Scarecrow. Join them as they aretransported "Over the Rainbow" to adventures in Munchkin Land, the Haunted Forest,and the Emerald City to visit the great and powerful Oz. The production will feature theclassic songs “Over the Rainbow,” “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead,” and “If I Only Had aBrain.”


Lincoln’s spring play is directed by Mrs. Claire Ratfield, a veteran teacher at theNewport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD). Comments Mrs. Ratfield, who hasbeen in charge of the annual school plays for 33 years, since 1979, “This year we have81 sixth graders who have worked tirelessly to make this year’s production a greatsuccess. We have an incredibly gifted group of kids; their talent runs so deep that itwould put our school on par with any performing arts charter school. Everyone comingto watch The Wizard of Oz will be stunned at the level of sophistication in the acting,singing, and dancing they will see on stage.”
For this year’s play, Mrs. Ratfield is joined by three parent co-producers (AngelaCaliger, Erin Hurray, and Gretchen Sheppard); the school’s teaching staff; pianist CarolHoppe; the Parent Teacher Association; and dozens of parent volunteers.

Every sixth grade student at Lincoln Elementary has a vital part in the play – fromcharacter and vocal performances to stage production to marketing and advertising.Two different student casts will perform two shows each March 28-31, 2012, nightlyat 6:00 p.m. at Lincoln Elementary School in Corona del Mar. The play is open to thepublic and ticket prices are $12 per person.
