Things to do in Newport on July 4

Enjoy the holiday weekend.

Here are a handful of things going on in Newport Beach for the Fourth. Feel free to add to the list by putting events and suggestions in the comments section below.

BBQ: On Sunday, the BBC will host its Sunday Summer BBQ on the terrace of Duke's Place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be an expanded menu for the holiday weekend: free range chicken, baby back ribs, salads, sides, desserts and summer cocktails. Live calypso and reggae music entertains the guests. $35 for adults, $22.50 for children 12 and under.

: This 4th of July party is known as the greatest show in Orange County.  Festivities begin at 10 a.m. and continue through 4 p.m. with games like horseshoes, volleyball, limbo, a hula hoop contest and a bounce house. At 3 p.m., Heart, Bon Jovi and Journey tribute bands begin and play until 9 p.m., when the Fireworks start. $50 fee per car. Walk-ins can watch the bands and fireworks for free. There is a $10 charge for a wristband to participate in some activities. Concessions like Ruby's Diner and bar is available.

Newport Harbor Boat Parade: American Legion Yacht Club present the on Monday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Participating yachts are decorated with Patriotic flair. Free Admission. 

Pancake Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner: Before and after the boat parade Monday, at the American Legion Post 291, a pancake breakfast will be served at 7 a.m. by volunteers for an $8 donation. Lunch and dinner will be served at noon until 6 p.m. and include tri-tips or chicken for a $10 donation. Raffle tickets are available for prizes and musical entertainment by "The Retros" on the patio.

Newport Landing Firework Cruise: will have three harbor cruises Monday including a Fireworks Spectacular Cruise. The 2 1/2-hour cruise will ride alongside the Old Glory Boat Parade. The boats also leave the harbor into the Pacific Ocean. $45 for cruise only and $70 for cruise and unlimited drink. Newport Peninsula Bike Parade & Community Festival: This popular event on the Peninsula is for the whole family and includes a bike and dog parade where participants dress up their bikes and dogs in patriotic fashions, bouncy houses, food, giant slides, and carnival games. The parade begins at 9am on 38th street. The festival is free and is located at Channel State Park from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. 

SOL Cocina July 4 Brunch: Sol Cocina is extending their weekend brunch to Monday. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sol will serve Chef Deborah Schneider's popular brunch menu with $10 bottomless mimosas and a premium margarita bar where patrons can make their own flavors for $9. 

Marine Corps Coastal City Flyover: A squadron of Marine helicopters are scheduled to perform a flyover along the coast Monday. The flight will begin in Huntington Beach and continue south to Newport starting at 6:55pm, flying over Newport Beach at approximately 6:59pm. 

Independence Day Parade Mariners Park: The 38th Annual Parade will take place at Mariners Park followed by games and activities. Proceeds from the event support Mariners Elementary School and is for all ages. he parade will begin at the corner of Commodore and Mariners Drive at 10:30 a.m. The celebration will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the park.
