Swing Your Way to a Great Escape

The course has ocean views, a nearby resort and a lunch special perfect for moms.

Attention, moms! Do you ever want to play a round of golf but never know if you'll have the time? Or maybe you’re just a newbie and curious about how the game works. If this sounds like you, this week's Great Escape may be right up your alley.

Back Bay Golf & Fitness in Newport Beach is a great place to get away when you find yourself with some free time.  Tucked back on the same property as the Hyatt Regency Newport,  it’s known as a “Pitch and Putt” course, has beautiful ocean views and requires no reservations.

Not only that, but now that spring is here, the course is offering the special “Pitch, Putt & Lunch.” So Mondays through Thursdays throughout the spring and summer, you can spend a few hours with a girlfriend or two on the nine-hole, par-three executive course followed by lunch for just $20.

“What better way to spend a late morning than with a casual round of golf, experiencing the beautiful setting and vistas of Newport Beach's Back Bay and relaxing on Sol restaurant's outdoor patio for lunch?” said Tim Mattos, director of sales for the Hyatt Regency.

But in addition to the scenery and ambience, it's a great place to take some time to introduce yourself to the game, and “if you’ve been playing a while, it’s a good course to work on improving your short game,” said Morgan Williams, a golf assistant at the course.

Williams wants everyone to know that while there’s no reason to make a reservation, it's a good idea to call ahead and make sure there are no closures going on at the course on the day you plan to visit.

“We especially recommend calling as we get closer to warm weather, as the course is used for many private events such as weddings,” Williams said.

The course is open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. until sunset. The cost to play a nine-hole game without lunch is $12 Monday-Thursday, and $18 Friday-Sunday. Quite a deal for an afternoon of golf and enjoying our beautiful Pacific Ocean, no?

The course is at 1107 Jamboree Rd., Newport Beach. For more information either call 949-729-6193 or visit hyattnewportbackbaygolfcourse.com.
