'Someone Cares' Prepares for Holiday Giving

The organization in Costa Mesa will fill backpacks with basic necessities for adults and give toys to children. On Sunday it will feed 500 guests.

The Someone Cares Soup Kitchen is preparing for its annual backpack-assembly campaign, warm-clothing drive and holiday dinner for the needy in Orange County.

The group is taking donations of money toys and clothing for the drive Saturday, Dec. 22, which is from 1-5 p.m. Volunteers will fill backpacks with basic items for adults facing tough times. Toys will be given to needy children.

On Sunday, Dec. 23, from 2-4 p.m., the soup kitchen will serve a holiday meal for 500 guests from 2-4 p.m.

Someone Cares says the soup kitchen serves more than 400 people per day, every day, to families, the working poor, the unemployed, seniors, the homeless and the mentally and physically handicapped.

The organization continues to aid the less fortunate throughout the year. Programs include tutoring for at-risk children.

The holiday events will take place at the Someone Cares Soup Kitchen, 720 W. 19th St., Costa Mesa.
