Sen. John McCain to be in Newport for Launch of Vets Organization

The former presidential candidate's son is a co-founder of HonorVet.org

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ.) will be in Newport Beach on Saturday for the launch of a new veterans group co-founded by his son.

HonorVet.org, founded by  Iraq war veterans James McCain and Jesse Canella, will hold a formal gala at the Balboa Bay Club. The event, which starts at 7 p.m., will include cocktails, dinner, dancing and a silent auction. There also will be a live feed to troops in Afghanistan. Individual tickets cost $300, a table of 12 costs $6,000.

Other notable guests include Orson Swindle III, a Vietnam veteran, POW and former commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission; Commander James Marvin, U.S. Navy retired and director of operations—Navy SEAL Team 4; and Louis Zamperini, a World War II veteran and POW, former Olympic runner and author of Devil at My Heels.

HonorVet.org is a web-based nonprofit that offers counseling from therapists and military chaplains, career coaching and other services to veterans.
