Santa Claus Gets the Disney Treatment at Roger's Gardens

St. Nick has an impressive home for the holidays.

Roger's Gardens has some pretty nice real estate for Santa Claus this Christmas season, and it's a must-see piece of Disney history.

On weekends through Dec. 19, Santa will be at the gardens to greet visitors and listen to childrens' Christmas wishes in the original Disneyland Bandstand gazebo, which was used at the theme park's opening day, July 17, 1955.

David Miller, marketing manager of Roger's Gardens, said this is a unique attraction that everyone in the community should see.

"It's a great event for the community, for family and friends to gather and come see Santa," Miller said. "It's been a tradition for a few years now, and to have Disneyland and Santa together is really a memorable event."

The Disneyland Bandstand was originally used for Mickey Mouse as he led his 16-piece band down Main Street USA. However, Walt Disney thought the gazebo obstructed the view of Sleeping Beauty's castle and had it moved to New Orleans square for the Mouseketeers to perform in. After a few more moves around the theme park, it was finally stored "backstage," not to be seen again.

Roger's Gardens acquired the gazebo in the mid-1970s and uses it year-round as a resting place for visitors and during the holiday season as Santa's prime location.

Santa Claus will be at Roger's Gardens Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.
