Red Ribbon Week Special Offers for OC Students End Sunday
The annual program aims to encourage young people to live drug-free lives.
School children with Red Ribbon wristbands have until Sunday, Oct. 27, to take advantages of special offers and discounts provided throughout Orange County in conjunction with an annual drug prevention program.
Each year the Orange County Sheriff's Advisory Council distributes about 1 million wristbands to students in public and private schools across the county for Red Ribbon Week, and coordinates a business incentive program to offer kids wearing the wristbands freebies and discounts at a variety of local merchants and attractions, such as restaurants, county parks, and arcades.

With the message that "Drug Abuse is Life Abuse," the Red Ribbon Week campaign seeks to reduce substance abuse and violence among young people, and encourage youth to live drug-free lives.
This year's event kicked off with the Walk Against Drugs in Mission Viejo. About 4,500 participants took part in the celebration, walking from Mission Viejo High School to Norman P. Murray Senior Center in "Drug Free I Can Be Superhuman!" T-shirts.
Red Ribbon Week is actually celebrated throughout October. This year's campaign runs from Oct. 4-27.
