Alert: Race for the Cure Road Closures

The road closures will be in effect Sunday from 4:30 a.m. until about 2 p.m.

Editor's note: The following news release was issued by the Newport Beach Police Department.

The Newport Beach Police Department is advising of temporary road closures in the Fashion Island area on Sunday, September 22 for the Susan G. Komen Orange County “Race for the Cure”.

The following roads surrounding Fashion Island and Newport Center will be affected starting at approximately 4:30 am for course setup, and may remain closed until 2:00 pm:

  • Newport Center Drive, except at the Santa Rosa entrance to Fashion Island
  • Santa Cruz Drive, from Newport Center Drive to San Joaquin Hills Road
  • San Clemente Drive, from Santa Cruz Drive to Santa Maria Drive
  • Santa Maria Drive, from San Clemente Drive to Newport Center Drive
  • Civic Center Drive, from Newport Center Drive to Avocado Avenue
  • Avocado Avenue, from San Miguel Drive to Corona del Mar Plaza entrance
  • San Miguel Drive, from Avocado Avenue to Newport Center Drive
  • Anacapa Drive, from Newport Center Drive to Civic Center Drive
It is recommended that attendees use the convenient and free offsite parking and shuttle services available from 6:00 am to 12:15 pm, located at: University Research Park: 5201-5251 California Ave, Irvine Corona del Mar high School: 2101 eastbluff Drive, Newport Beach Corporate Plaza Parking Lots: East Coast Highway and Newport Center Drive.

Over 25,000 people are expected to participate in the event this year. We appreciate your patience on race day. In 2013, participants hope to raise $2,800,000 for vital breast health services through donations from their family members, friends, and colleagues.

As with any public event, attendees and participants should be mindful of bags they bring to the race course. Bags should be closely monitored and should not be left unattended at any time.
