Photos: 50th annual Sandcastle Contest in Corona del Mar
Builders arrived to Corona del Mar State Beach with buckets, shovels and imagination.
Twenty-five teams hit the beach in Corona del Mar Sunday to compete in the 50th annual Sandcastle Building Contest.
The teams brought buckets, shovels, sand sculpting tools and their wild imaginations hoping to turn mounds of sand into prize-winning of art.
Some of the teams scultped a giant birthday cake, a Volkswagen bug, an octopus and sandcastles as hundreds of spectators took photos and watched the action. Prizes and trophies were given out for the best sculpture, best castle, most humorous and most unique sand creation.
