Gym Collects Thanksgiving Food for Local Families

Training Zone gym collects food for 50 needy families within the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.

Many families within the Newport-Mesa Unified School District will have food on Thanksgiving, thanks to the generosity of a local gym.

This week the employees and clients of Training Zone in Costa Mesa held a Thanksgiving food drive to feed 50 local families. Sean Canova, the gym's owner, partnered with client Joe Rose and raised $3,000 to fill boxes with $50 worth of food and a gift card to Smart and Final.

"It's important to get it in the hands of those who need it and eliminate red tape by dealing directly with people in the community," Canova told Patch. "There are hungry kids out there, they are our neighbors."

Client and Balboa Island resident Trish Hurley says she was thankful to see the gym stepping in to help the less fortunate during the Thanksgiving holiday.
