The Lexus Newport to Ensenada Yacht Race festivities began Sunday with a kick-off lauch party held at the ExplorOcean Newport Harbor Nautical Museum.

DC Babylon & The Hanging Garden Band entertained the crowds with live music. Children enjoyed face painting, a wooden boat building workshop and science activity stations, while some adults cooled off at the Stella Artois beer garden.

Orange County resident Rob Walter spent Sunday helping his boys build wooden boats.

"We're sharing in the excitement of getting ready for the race together," Walter said.

Newport Beach residents Robert Peralta and Casey Hsung said they attended the launch for the great music, weather and atmosphere.
