Fundraiser Aims to House Homeless Pups

The fourth annual SUP for a Pup Fundraiser will take place Saturday in Newport Beach from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Homeless dogs in need of loving homes will be up for adoption this weekend at the fourth annual SUP for a Pup Fundraiser in Newport Beach.

The charity event is hosted annually by Kaenon Polarized to support at-risk animals. Along with the pet adoptions, the event will feature deals from Orange County apparel companies including surfwear, eyewear, accessories, stand up paddle boards, as well as food from Wahoo's Fish Tacos. Chris Wyman, spokesman for Kaenon, said since the fundraiser began three years ago it has helped facilitate approximately 60 pet adoptions through A Wish for Animals, a non-profit that helps find homes for homeless and at-risk animals.

"We started the event when the beginning of the downturn in the economy started. It was tragic, people just started bailing on their homes, leaving everything, including their dogs," Wyman said. "We felt something needed to be done."

Along with the adoptions, a portion of the sales from the food, raffles and products will benefit the services provided to needy pets by A Wish for Animals.

"The success of the event is not only measured by the number of dogs adopted, we also measure by the amount of funds that are raised,"  Wyman said.
