New PIMCO HQ; 'Ferry Tales'; Top Brunch Spot

A handful of things happening in and around Newport Beach.

  1. Construction on a new headquarters building at Newport Center for investment firm PIMCO is expected to begin by late summer and wrap up by mid-2013, City News Service reports. The building will be 380,000 square feet and located at 650 Newport center Drive. The Irvine Co. will build the new headquarters and be the long-term landlord. "We are thrilled to be able to keep such a prestigious firm in our city," Mayor Michael Henn said. 
  2. The Newport Beach Historical Society on March 24 will host a dinner and lecture titled "Ferry Tales: The Commerce and Culture of the Iconic Balboa Island Ferry." The event, which will feature ferry owner/operator Seymour Beek, will be held at the Harborside Grand Ballroom at the Balboa Pavilion, 400 Main St., starting with cocktails at 6 p.m. Cost is $30 per person.   3. The at Newport Dunes has made restaurant website Open Table's Top 10 list for brunch spots.
  4. Mayor Michael Henn will be at the Friends Room of the Central Library 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday to give a presentation about the city and then answer questions from residents.
  5. Temperatures today are expected to be in the high 60s, with mostly sunny skies, according to the Weather Channel.
