Mozza's Silverton Hosts Book Signing

In a visit to her new restaurant in Newport Beach, the culinary heavyweight says her recipes are easy to make.

Foodies gathered in Newport Beach on Sunday to visit with chef Nancy Silverton and grab signed copies of her new cookbook.

The signing was held at , the PCH restaurant owned by culinary heavyweights Silverton, Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich. Silverton created The Mozza Cookbook to share recipes for her pizzas, salads and desserts. For aspiring chefs, Silverton said, the recipes are easy to make and the ingredients easy to find in Newport Beach.

"Most can be found at Trader Joe's or Gelson's," she said. "They are very, very easy to make."

Pizzeria Mozza, which officially opened Sept. 1., is the trio's second location (the original is in Hollywood). Situated on Coast Highway across from the Balboa Bay Club, Pizzeria Mozza features indoor and courtyard seating with a pizza bar from which patrons can watch their pizza being made.

"It's been terrific," Silverton said. "I wish I could get down here more often. ... I love it. Look at it. Sunshine."

The restaurant is still battling for its liquor license. For now, it can serve beer and wine, but city officials worry about additional noise and traffic. Restaurant management expects a decision by the end of the month.

Along with Pizzeria Mozza, Silverton founded the La Brea Bakery and Osteria Mozza, and wrote seven other cookbooks, including A Twist of the Wrist and Nancy Silverton's Sandwich Book. The Mozza Cookbook is available at bookstores and online for $35.
