Moms Talk: Should Circumcision on Babies Be Banned?

San Francisco voters will decide in November whether to ban circumcision on boys. A similar measure has been proposed for the Santa Monica ballot.

The Male Genital Mutilation Bill would prohibit circumcising males under the age of 18.

San Francisco resident Lloyd Scholfield, who favors banning the procedure, told the Associated Press: "Parents are really guardians, and guardians have to do what's in the best interest of the child. It's his body. It's his choice."

Jewish leader David Lehrer in the L.A. Times blasted the idea of banning circumcision as taking "the notion of the Mommy State to a ridiculous extreme. It probably touches upon being anti-Semitic."
