Marine Car Wash Saturday at Newport Dunes

Car washes by local Marines to benefit the Newport Beach 1st Battalion 1st Marines Foundation.

More than 100 Marines who recently returned from a tour in Afghanistan will be washing cars this weekend in Newport Beach and community support is encouraged.

The Newport Beach 1st Battalion 1st Marines Foundation Car Wash is scheduled for Saturday, September 28 at Newport Dunes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bill Long, a foundation volunteer, said the car wash funds will be donated back to the 1/1 Marines to help them pay for a variety of expenses.

According to Long, the 1st Battalion,1st Marines is "one of the most decorated and distinguished units in the Marine Corps." The unit is historically known for being the first to enter combat when a conflict arises.

The city of Newport Beach adopted the 1st Battalion,1st Marines in December, 2003 to help the Marines, sailors and their families.
