Little Corona Gets 'C' on Beach Report Card

Little Corona Beach received a C, on Heal the Bay's End of Summer Beach Report Card, the agency announced in its report Thursday.

In an effort to share water quality grades with beachgoers before the Labor Day Weekend, Heal the Bay's report indicated just how clean local beaches are in comparison to each other. While other Newport beaches received A's or A+'s on the beach report card, Little Corona scored a C which was the lowest grade in Orange County aside from Dana Point's Poche Beach which got a D.

The data used for the end of summer report card was collected between Memorial Day through Aug. 21. According to the report, the better the grade a location receives, the lower the risk of illness to beachgoers.

The report, however, is not designed to measure the amount of trash or toxins found in the beach waters.

Orange County beach water quality improved overall 3 percent from last summer with 98 of 102 locations receiving A grades, the report showed. Currently Little Corona Beach has an F, according to Heal the Bay's beachreportcard.org which was last updated on Aug. 7.

Last year Little Corona Beach received a B on the report.

Across the state there were 20 beaches that received poor water quality grades, six C's, including Little Corona, seven D's and seven F's.
