Downed Power Lines, Fire Hazard Zones and Community Awards

A few things you need to know for Feb. 9.

1. The Newport Beach Fire Department is hosting an informational meeting tonight to discuss potential changes related to an ordinance the City Council will be considering for adoption. The meeting will focus on the State's new Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone Map and will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at the OASIS Senior Center in Corona del Mar. 2. The city of Newport Beach is passing along a safety message from Southern California Edison about power lines. If you see a downed power line, you should call 911 immediately and always assume power lines are energized. Get more information about the dangers of downed power lines here.

  • Never touch a power line or anything that is in contact with the line.
  • Call 911 immediately and tell the operator it is an electrical emergency.
  • Be aware of overhead lines when working outside so you do not make contact.

3. The PTA is accepting nominations for its Honorary Service Awards, designed to recognize teachers, coaches, staff members, parents and community members who have provided outstanding services to CDMHS. The awards will be given in April. If you are interested in nominating someone, send an e-mail to signedunn@cox.net with the person's name, information about why he or she deserves recognition, and contact information of others who might be willing to give additional information about the nominee.
