Earth Day Sunday

St. Mark Presbyterian Church and its Ecophilians Environmental Group invite all to celebrate Earth Day Sunday on May 1. Worship times are at 9 to 10 a.m. and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., and the two winners of the Bob and LaRae Parry Environmental Scholarships will be announced.  Earth Day activities will be held between and after services. St. Mark is the first church in the United States to be designated as a “green church” by Audubon International.

At 10:45 and 11:45 a.m., UCI Professor Dr. David Feldman will speak about “The Injustice of Climate Change: Faith, Eco-justice, and Global Environmental Challenges.”  Attorney Aaron Gettis will preface Dr. Feldman’s remarks with an update on the legal issues surrounding solar energy.  A Tanaka Farms representative will be onsite to describe its Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) fruit and vegetable box deliveries. New eco-friendly cars will be on display, and Newport Beach artist Chip Fesko will exhibit his series of watercolors entitled “Birds & Flora” (most recently on view in the Newport Beach City Hall.) There will also be children’s’ games and tours of the St. Mark Nature Center.
